Herman LeVern Jones’ TheatreSouth production. “A Civil War Christmas” takes place during the Civil War in the harsh winter of 1864, just after Abraham Lincoln was re-elected. In the midst of all of this is a young African-American girl named Jessa who is wandering the streets in Washington after losing touch with her family. She runs into Mary Todd Lincoln. She hears the Christmas caroling of Washingtonians and yearns to be accepted and taken out of the frigid cold. This unique story is told through music, dance and song. This multicultural version explores the history of Abraham Lincoln and his family and the plot against his life.
